This is the remarkable story of how the people of Havana have pulled themselves back from the brink of disaster.
Faced with food shortages and widespread hunger, city dwellers began growing food on rooftops and in front of office buildings. “It was a very spontaneous movement. People started to grow things on every available place”, states on resident. Now, there are thousands of urban farms and more than a million tons of food is produced within the city.

I hope the animals appreciate this! lol The hand operated seeder we used is a Mid West Products Model GSF-31M to plant the sweet corn. We also used the old John Deere 140 to broadcast Seeds too.

Tulips, daffodils, and iris can be planted from early September to late November or until the soil freezes. A good rule of thumb is to plant them about six weeks before the ground is frozen in your area. Plant wildflower bulbs in your perennial garden and groundcover. And the gorgeous deep ruby red color inspires me to search for new ways to incorporate them in my lunch and dinner plans. Unfortunately, most people have only experienced beets as purple pickled pieces of a stodgy salad. Truthfully, I happen to love pickled beets, but there are so many wonderful ways to eat them.
